How does the Backyard system work?
Insert waste
Organic waste is inserted into the digester via the inlet sink
Anaerobic digester
The system decomposes waste and transforms it into renewable energy
Clean cooking gas generated daily
The system generates renewable biogas for your cooking needs
Liquid Bio-fertilizer
The system generates liquid bio-fertilizer with essential elements for healthy plant growth

FAQ’s
-
Where should it be installed?
On flat, level ground with direct sunlight and no further than 50 meters from the kitchen.
-
What is the size of the system?
The size of the system is 7M long x 2M width x 80CM high.
-
What is the size of the system and Where should it be located?
The size of the system is equivalent to the space of two parking spots, and can be located in various spots, though outside is most preferred.
-
Does the system provide hot water through existing water infrastructure?
The system pre-heats water which is supplied through the costumer’s infrastructure, up to 90 degrees Celsius, and sent back straight to the costumer’s existing infrastructures as needed.
-
What is required for system operation?
Both water and electricity infrastructures are required, as well as a concrete surface up to 8 X 6.2 square meters and a sewage drainage spot.
-
Do I need to service the filter? How often?
Yes, it needs to be serviced every 8-12 months depending on the moisture content of the pellets.
-
What is the maximum length of piping from the biodigester to the stove?
You can use a maximum of up to 50 meters for optimal gas pressure on the stove.
-
What is the lifespan of the farmer’s system?
The lifespan of the system is over 10 years.
-
What happens to the excess gas that I produce?
Where cooking is done for an optimum amount of time (5-6) hours, there is rarely any excess gas. But if there is excess gas generated and not used, it escapes through the pressure release mechanism.
-
How many days should I feed the system?
At the point of installation, there is one initial feeding of 800kgs of manure and 3500-5000 liters of water. There is no more feeding required during the wait period of the next 3 weeks (21 days).
-
How long will it take for the system to start producing gas?
After the initial feeding at the point of installation, the biological processes begin inside the system. Usable gas is generated after a period of 2-3 weeks (14-21 days).
-
What type of waste can be fed into the system?
Animal manure, the best type recommended is cow, pig or horse.
-
What kind of waste can be fed to the system?
The system can be fed any organic kitchen waste, with the exception of citrus fruits. It cannot be fed non-food waste including paper, wood, trimmed branches, leaves, etc. as these items will damage the anaerobic biogas production process.
-
How is system maintenance and troubleshooting managed?
The system is supported by advanced technological features including IOT and cloud-based technology that are operated by a dedicated remote control and application, enabling the HomeBiogas technical team to both control and fix malfunctions remotely. Maintenance is managed by a local technical support team.
-
Will the system still produce energy even if it is not fed daily?
It is best to feed the system on a daily basis, however energy will still be produced if a day or two of feeding is missed (weekends for example). The more food waste that the system digests, the more energy it will produce!
